In 2nd Kings ch2 vs1-11 we have the home going of a servant of God. It is an amazing piece of scripture. A Miraculous stunning event in the life of the man of God, Elijah.

In considering the whole life of Elijah you will find it is worthy of your attention for in it you will find :-
A) He was a man who walked by faith and not by sight.
B) He was a man who would not walk in the wickedness of his day.
C) He was a man who had a marked elevation of spirit.
D) He was a man who was a mighty intercessor.
E) He was a man who experienced overwhelming problems in his life to.

The scriptures also tells us he was a man of like passions as we are; which tells us that the servanthood of Elijah is attainable by all who love the Lord……Selah.

There are many valuable truths in this passage I would like us to consider just one of them. It is:-

There is a life beyond this physical life, death does not end it all. Many are the people today and down through the ages who say and have said “When you’re dead you’re dead, that’s it, nothing more”. This plainly is rank denial of the Bible and it’s truths. This is rank denial of our conscience that tells us that there is more than just this life. This is rank denial of our emotions. This rank denial of our reasoning powers these are nothing more than man refusing to be accountable to God for his own sin(s). Friends to think that man who was created in the image of God should live a few brief years upon this earth develope a personality and powers of intellect, develope a living relationship with God and then be snuffed out like a candle is folly – oh yes yes yes most certainly there is more to come after our physical death. We have the more sure word of prophecy (2Peter ch1:19) to assure us there is more than just the physical world.

If we look in our scripture text verse 11 where does it say that Elijah went to…..HEAVEN. Now if death ends it all how do we explain the transfiguration of Jesus Christ where present with the Lord Was Moses and ELIJAH ! (See Mark ch9 vs2-4) talking with the Lord. Now get this approximately 900 years have passed since Elijah went up to heaven. Question….when he appeared on the mount of transfiguration was he there as a corpse or a skeleton that the disciples saw, no . He was alive and well talking with the Lord Jesus. He had been in heaven with God and Moses for 900 years.

Friends the Departure from this world does not end it all. For the person who loves God and who is saved, for the repentant sinners who trusts in the atoning blood of Christ there is an entrance through the gates of death to a higher, better, fuller ETERNAL LIFE. ……BUT for those who have never trusted in the Lord there is an existence in the darkness and blackness of hell. “For whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire”(Rev ch20:vs15). “As it is appointed unto man once to die, but after this the judgement ” (Hebrews ch 9 vs 27). Notice it says ‘after this’ the the judgement is not before death but after. There is more then? Oh yes.

He that hath the Son hath life;and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. (1John ch5 vs 12). He that believeth on the Son hath EVERLASTING life; and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.(John ch3:vs36).So – Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths. (Proverbs ch3:vs5&6) That includes heavenward………..Amen.

God bless
