1. The establishment of the blood

Since before time began God knew that Adam would fall and so deliverance from the fall and eternal death and eternal life for man was planned by almighty God Himself. No human wisdom is of any avail. It is God alone that can point out the way of escape and deliverance. Deliverance by the blood of THE LAMB is the outcome of Divine wisdom. Deliverance for men is through substitution. That was the meaning of the blood of the slaughtered lamb and faith in its cleansing power. Look to the Lamb of God.

From Genesis to Revelation we can see there is a stream of sacrificial blood. The Bible clearly teaches us also that the life of the flesh is in the blood. This fundamental principle is given in Leviticus ch17:v11 ‘For the life of the flesh is in the blood; and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.’ So without blood there could be no atonement and until the sacrificial blood of an innocent lamb was presented the Holy law of God demanded justice and death for the sinner. That is why when God gave the 2 tablets of the law to Moses upon Mount Sinai He also gave to Moses the pattern of the tabernacle whose rituals was bathed in sacrificial blood sacrifice. God knew that the Israelites would not keep the law perfectly so in mercy He gave the tabernacle and the altar so a sinning people might have life by sheltering under the blood of the sacrificial lamb Exodus ch30:10.

This sacrifice on the day of atonement pointed to a better sacrifice that was to come.

2. The Blood

Life, that mysterious something is said by God to be in the blood of the flesh. So there can be no life without the blood.although this is true of all flesh we are mainly interested in human blood, (but particularly in the blood of the man Christ Jesus.) The blood is a mobile fluid and reaches all parts of the body supplying nourishment and carrying off the “ashes” of cell activity. It circulates through our system about every 23 seconds. Once the blood fails to reach the cells and members of the body they promptly die, no man ever dies until his blood ceases to circulate. This life is in the blood. All men are related by the sinful blood of the sinful Adam, Acts ch17:26. Since the fall not only is there life in the blood but there must also be death. Eating of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil gave us blood poisoning and resulted in death for God said, ” the day thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die “. Adam died spiritually the day he ate the fruit and ultimately physically. Since life is in the blood when Adam spiritually died something happened to the blood that coursed through his veins. Sin affected the blood of Adam and everyone since.

3. The virgin birth

The very fact that sin affected the blood of man necessitated the virgin birth of Jesus Christ. He was to be a son of Adam and yet a sinless man (the last Adam). For this reason Jesus could partake of Adam’s flesh which is not inherently sinful but he could not partake of Adam’s blood which was sinful. God provided a way by which Jesus would be born of the seed of the woman and not of the man. Jesus could be a perfect human being but not sharing in Adam’s sinful nature through his sinful blood. He was born of a virgin.

Let us consider more about the virgin birth and what took place in her womb. Matthew 1:v18-23 – she was found with child of the Holy Ghost – that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost – His name Emmanuel – God with us. A supernatural act of the Holy Ghost wholly and apart from any generation by a human father. Why this? It is a definitely known fact that the blood which flows in an unborn babies arteries and veins is not derived from the mother but is produced within the body of the foetus. Yet it is only after the male sperm has entered the ovum and the foetus is developing that the blood appears in the embryo. It is unnecessary that a single drop of blood be given to the embryo developing in the womb of the mother. The mother provides the unborn developing infant with the nutritive elements for the building of that little body. The blood which forms in it is formed in the embryo itself. Also there is no interchange of a single drop of blood ever occurring within the placenta (afterbirth). So we can see how wonderfully God prepared for the virgin birth of His Son. When he created woman He made her so that no blood would be able to pass from her to her offspring, in order to produce a sinless man whose blood was created by the Holy Ghost, and still be a son of Adam. In Hebrews ch2:v14 the words took part is the word metecho it means to take part of but not all. In the first Adam his blood became corrupted. In the Last Adam sinless, divine blood was supernaturally produced by the Holy Ghost.

Sinless blood was God’s only purchase price of redemption because in Adam all have sinned and come short but in the Last Adam there was innocent sinless blood that would be used for the atonement, the redemption of mankind.

4. The Blood of the Cross

Remember John the Baptist when he saw Jesus he said ‘Behold the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world’. Jesus the innocent sinless Pascal lamb the Passover lamb was sacrificed on the Cross shedding his innocent blood that we could be redeemed, saved from from death which the law of God demanded. Jesus Christ made the eternal atonement for our souls, if we trust Him and His cleansing blood.

5. The Power in that blood

Remember that hymn There’s power in the blood, well there is. Consider what the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the Cross did for us.

Matthew 26:28 – the Remission of sins ( pardon, deliverance)
Acts 20:28 – Purchased with His blood (to acquire, to buy back).
Romans 5:9 – Justified by His blood (to render innocent, to show as just).
Hebrews 9:14 – to Purge your conscience (to cleanse or make clean ).
1Peter 1: 18,19 – Redeemed by His blood (to ransom, to loosen with a ransom price).
1John 1:7 – Cleanseth from all sin (to purify)
Revelation 1:5 – Washed us from our sins (to bathe the whole person).
Revelation 7:14 – Washed our robes in the blood (to plunge into, to launder clothing).
Leviticus 17:11 – it is the blood that maketh an atonement for your souls (to cover, to appease, disannul to make reconciliation).

Study these scriptures, dwell on them, pray about them and see then, how marvellous and how wonderful that the blood of the Son of God Cleanseth us from all sin.

The blood of Jesus has a supernatural, heavenly, divine power to cover and blot out your sin before God immediately and for eternity.

The question is Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing POWER and ARE YOU WASHED IN THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB? Exodus 12:3-5 a lamb, the Lamb, your Lamb. Is He yours? Redeemed how I love to proclaim it, redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb. God bless.
